The biggest source of microplastics is choppings boards and household dust

While it’s true microplastics are building up in our environment, it’s hard to do things about that. But the biggest sources for humans are actually plastic chopping boards (broken down by knifes) and household dust (from artificial fibers in clothes/towels/carpets).

Here’s what you can do:

  • Buy a solid wood chopping board, not one made of glued pieces of wood because then you’re eating glue and varnish.
  • Vacuum and dust regularly.
  • Wash your clothes and bedding often to remove dust.
  • Buy air purifiers. If you can only buy one put it in your bedroom since that’s where you’ll spend the most time.
  • Replace clothes and towels with natural fibers where you can afford them.
  • Replace rugs, installed carpet and curtains with natural fibers as you can afford it.
